Adult Group Tennis Lessons — All Levels Welcome

Small-group coaching for adults who want to learn, improve, and play consistently in a structured, friendly environment.

Whether you’ve never held a racquet, stepped away from the game years ago and want to return, or you’re a regular player looking to sharpen your technique, there is a session designed for you.

Sessions run for 60 minutes and are led by a qualified tennis coach. Groups are kept small  with players spread across two courts , so your coach can focus on the specific needs of each person rather than running general drills from a distance. If you already have a group of friends who want to learn together, that can be arranged too.

This program suits adults who want to:

  • Learn tennis properly in a welcoming, non-intimidating setting , no experience required
  • Meet other people in the Lane Cove, Longueville, St Leonards, and Crows Nest area who enjoy sport
  • Improve their game with structured coaching rather than just hitting around
  • Find a regular weekly activity that is physically active and genuinely social

You don’t need to own a racquet. You don’t need a partner. And there’s no fitness level you need to reach before you start.

What Is Adult Group Tennis — and Who Is It For?

Adult Group Tennis is a coached program where a small number of adults share court time under the guidance of a qualified tennis coach. It sits between private lessons (just you and a coach) and casual social play. You get structured coaching and genuine skill development, in a group setting that is more affordable and more social than individual sessions.

At Galuwa Recreation Centre, each session runs for 60 minutes and covers all strokes, individual technique analysis, court craft, and tactical play relevant to your level. Sessions are structured and repeatable , meaning you can return each week and build on what you did the week before, rather than starting from scratch every time.

It is designed for adults who are:

  • Complete beginners who want a proper introduction to the sport
  • Returning players who played socially or at school and want to get back on court
  • Intermediate players who want to play more consistently and understand the game better
  • Adults looking for a regular activity that combines exercise, skill-building, and social connection

    Beginner

New to tennis, or returning after a significant break. Sessions focus on the fundamentals: racquet grip, court positioning, making consistent contact with the ball, and basic serving. The emphasis is on building confidence at a pace that suits the group.

    📅 Tuesday @ 6:00pm 📅 Wednesday @ 6:00pm 📅 Thursday @ 6:00pm 📅 Saturday @ 9:30am

    Intermediate

For adults who can sustain a rally and are ready to develop consistency, court movement, and tactical understanding.

    📅 Tuesday @ 7:00pm 📅 Wednesday @ 6:00pm 📅 Thursday @ 7:00pm

What Our Players Say

Why Adult Group Tennis at Galuwa Recreation Centre Works

Small groups mean real, individual feedback. Groups are kept small and spread across two courts so that your coach can observe your technique, correct your grip, and give you specific, actionable feedback every session , not just run general drills from a distance. This is the practical difference between group coaching and casual court hire.

Levels are kept separate, so you are always in the right group. Beginner sessions are genuinely designed for beginners. You won’t be out-paced by players who have been competing for years. Intermediate sessions challenge players who already have a foundation and want to develop further. The schedule is structured so you can find your level and progress at your own pace.

It builds into a real community. Many adults who start in the beginner group go on to join the Friday evening Social Tennis sessions and eventually look for more competitive play. There’s always a natural next step , and familiar faces along the way. This is a consistent weekly program, not a drop-in class.

Your first session is free. New players receive a free introductory session. Try it before you commit to anything . see the outdoor courts at Lane Cove, meet the coach, and experience the group with no obligation.

The facility offers more than just tennis. Galuwa Recreation Centre at 180 River Road is a broader leisure and recreation hub. Alongside adult tennis coaching, the facility offers Golf, Social Tennis, Pickleball via Play Pickle, Holiday Camps, and Kids Tennis. If you’re looking for an active community in Lane Cove rather than just a court booking, this is it.

How to Be Part of Our Adult Group Tennis Program

Getting started is straightforward. Here is what the process looks like from your first enquiry to your first session on court.

Review the two levels above — Beginner or Intermediate — and identify where you fit. If you are genuinely unsure, call or email us first and we’ll give you a direct recommendation based on your background.

Both levels run across multiple evenings during the week, with a Saturday morning option for beginners. Review the schedule and find a time that works consistently for your week. Most players settle into one regular session, which is where steady, visible improvement happens.

New players receive a free introductory session. Contact us to arrange it before your first booking — it’s the simplest way to see whether the group, the coaching, and the outdoor courts at Lane Cove are the right fit for you.

Group lessons can be booked online. For direct debit options or any questions before you book, call (02) 8360 5555 or email info@ssmggaluwa.com.au .

Arrive a few minutes before your session. Wear comfortable athletic clothing and flat-soled shoes — court shoes are ideal over time, but standard runners are fine to start with. Let us know ahead of time if you need a racquet for your first session.

After a few sessions, your coach will give you a clear sense of where you’re progressing and what to focus on next. Friday evening Social Tennis is a natural complement to coaching — more court time in a relaxed format, with the same community of players.
